In 1640, at the beginning of the war with Portugal, a wall was built around Verín, measuring more than two kilometers in length, in order to encircle and protect the town from possible attacks. This wall was erected following the structural techniques of the time, but its lack of solidity and its low height did not meet the expectations; the neighbors even fled the town on several occasions to take refuge in the mountains closer to the place of Monterrey.a

Puente sobre el río Támega
This bridge, built in 1853 over the river Támega, connects the district of San Lázaro with the center of Verín. The tradition speaks of the existence of a bridge of Roman origin already in the time of Trajan, although to this day no traces of such a building were found.
