Get to know Ourense
The city of Ourense is the third largest in the Galician Community, after A Coruña and Vigo. In this variant of the Camino de Santiago is the only city that pilgrims will find before arrival.
At this end of stage, pilgrims will find all the services they need. In addition, they should make time to stroll through the wonderful historic center of Ourense.

How to get there
The main way to reach the city of Ourense is by road, it can be reached by the A-52 highway that connects O Porriño with Madrid thanks to the link with the A-6 in Benavente. The AP-53 freeway connects Ourense with Santiago de Compostela and thanks to the link with the AP-9 you can reach A Coruña and Ferrol quickly. There are also secondary roads that facilitate access from Ponferrada via the N-120, the OU-536 that connects with Puebla de Trives and the OU-540 that links Orense with Celanova.
There is a train station that connects the city with La Coruña, Zamora, Madrid, Vigo, Barcelona, Bilbao and France. It is also possible to reach the city by bus, there are lines that connect Orense with Bilbao, Tordesillas, Granada, Murcía, Ponferrada, Salamanca, Zaragoza, Alicante Salou, Oviedo and Madrid.

What to see
Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Milagros
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Miracles is presided over by an 18th century Stations of the Cross that was built with only 6 chapels out of the 14 that were planned. This construction could not be finished due to problems with financing.

Santuario de Nuestra Señora de las Ermitas
The Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Las Ermitas was built in the first decade of the 18th century by Juan Martínez Pita. The Via Crucis erected in front dates from 1730 and is composed of 14 chapels with 62 statues.

Puentes de Ourense
The city of Ourense is home to a large number of bridges that cross the Miño to give access to its center. Both of Roman origin as current.

The Loña Bridge is located on the old road that connects the city of Ourense with Peares, which has been rebuilt on numerous occasions although its original structure has been maintained and is currently used to access an area of thermal baths.

Plaza Mayor
The main square of Ourense is located in the surroundings of the Burgas. It is a square of large proportions that is surrounded by old houses and landmark buildings dating from between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The building that stands out the most is the Town Hall work of Queralt, which presides over the square and dates back to the nineteenth century.

Liceo de Ourense
The Pazo Oca Valladares-Liceo is characterized by its Gothic-Renaissance style. Its construction began in 1522 but was not completed until 1583, thanks to Álvaro de Oca y Deza. This monument was built entirely with stone from the surroundings of Ourense and is divided into two floors. The building remained empty during the 19th century until it became the headquarters of the Liceo Recreo de Artesanos de Ourense in 1870. Artists such as Lamas Carvajal, Curros Enriquez, Isaac Albéniz, among others, used to meet here.

Outariz
The Outariz thermal baths are located on the banks of the Miño River as it passes through the city of Orense and are set within a private enclosure presided over by a wooden building that houses a series of facilities dedicated to jacuzzi, sauna and a wide variety of treatments, such as chocolate therapy, beauty, algae, etc.

Iglesia de Santa María Nai
The Santa Maria Nai Church is one of the oldest in the city and although the exact date of its construction is not known, it can be deduced from its architectural elements that it dates back to approximately the 4th century.

Iglesia de Santo Domingo
The Church of Santo Domingo is located next to the Convent, forming a complex built in the mid-17th century thanks to the economic contributions of Domingo Rodríguez de Araújo, who donated this complex to the Dominican Order.

Iglesia de Santa Fátima
The Church of Santa Fatima presents on its façade a stone image of the Virgin that is venerated. This image is four meters high and was the work of the sculptor Failde.
As for its interior, it houses a large number of ornamental details such as chestnut wood benches inscribed with the anagram of the Virgin. At the ends there are carved large eagles, the whole set is the work of the Núñez Brothers.

Iglesia de Santa Eufemia
The baroque style church of Santa Eufemia took 100 years to build but, even so, it shows a great stylistic coherence. Its structure is not complete since in 1989 only one of its towers was erected, the other one is still unfinished.

Iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad
The Church of the Holy Trinity is the oldest in the city, although only a few Romanesque details remain from its original construction. Later, between the fifteenth and sixteenth century, the Gothic-Flemish style cresting was added.
One of the purposes of this church was to house the pilgrims who came to the area so much, so on the side cover we will find engraved a scallop shell, symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Iglesia de San Francisco
The Church of San Francisco was built in the 14th century on the outskirts of the city and of its original structure only the Gothic style cloister remains. Subsequently, the church was moved to the park of San Lazaro, so that today, the cloister and the church are separated.

Catedral de San Martiño
The Cathedral of San Martiño dates its main altar from the year 1188 so it is of transitional Romanesque style and shows many similarities with the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, as this is also considered a pilgrimage church.

As Burgas
As Burgas is a set of springs declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1975, through which thermal waters gush out to which healing properties are attributed, especially to heal dermatological conditions. This is the reason why Ourense is known as they represent the most symbolic and visited tourist resource of the city.

Palacio Episcopal y Museo Arqueológico
The Archaeological Museum of Ourense is located in the building of the Episcopal Palace, which was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931. The structure that can be seen today was erected in the 12th century and has a Romanesque façade, later incorporating Gothic elements such as the Tower of Santa Maria. Renaissance parts were also added, such as the garden gallery and some other Baroque ones, such as the main doorway.

The Termas de A Chavasqueira is a complex located on the outskirts of Ourense, where we can find appropriate facilities to offer different relaxing and aesthetic treatments and a thermal circuit with different pools, saunas, etc.. This enclosure is for private use so you have to book and pay for the use of them.
