Today you will get to Galicia, to Lugo. You will enter in Galicia through a village called O Acebo. This is the starting point for all the pilgrim that decide to walk just the last kilometer of the way. In today’s stage you will change the community but also the kind of signals. In Asturias there are scallop shells that indicate the way with its small part and in Galicia the way is indicated with the big part of the scallop shell.
After yesterday’s stage you will start today walking up to Acebo. Just after leaving Grandas de Salime you will have to turn left to cross the Capilla del Carmen chapel. You will get to a path parallel to the AS-28. Just after one kilometer you will have to leave the path to continue through an asphalted road, You will continue straight forwards and you will see a curve in the road, here you will have to turn through a path that will lead you to Cereixeira, a perfect place to have breakfast and buy all the needed things. You will leave this small city through another path that you will find at the right side; you will have to walk towards Malneira and the Castro. This village has many establishments to rest or stay the night, it was named after a site called Chao Sanmartín from the 9 century BC; here you can visit its archaeological site and learn a little bit about its culture in the museum that you will find there. Then you will get to the Capilla de San Lázaro chapel and also to Gastoleo. Here you will have to walk through the AS-28 and get to Peñafonte, a village between Galicia and Asturias where you will leave the asphalted road and where you will be able to visit the Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena church. After walking up for a while you will return to the AS-28 to get to Bustelo del Camino, here you have to be very careful because you will have to leave the road entering through a small door that will lead you to a path surrounded by wild fields. At the end, you will be able to see A Fonsagrada, in Galicia. You will have to walk then to Venta del Acebo, a place where you can rest for a while. then you will walk parallel to the LU-701 for a while, walking through Cabreira and Fonfría. This small village that belongs to A Fonsagrada used to has a pilgrim’s hospital. There are just a few kilometers to get to the end of the stage, but first you will go through Barbeitos and Paradanova.
After leaving Fonfría you will also leave the asphalted road to cross the Monte de Penoucos mount. Then you will return to the road in Barbeitos. Here you will have to cross the road to get to San Martín de Suarna. You will get to a hermitage before crossing the LU-701, the hermitage is devoted to Santa Bárbara-Silvela. Finally, you will get to Paradanova and you will see the Capilla de Santa Cruz chapel where you will have two options: the first one is turn left to get to A Fonsagrada walking up; the second option is to go through the road and then continue through a path to the right. Once you get to A Fonsagrada, the largest village in Galicia where you will find all kind of services and also a local hostel. To get there you should walk through the Avenida de Galicia avenue and also through the Cakke de las Rodas street to Padrón.
