Pola de Allande is a village that belongs to the municipality of Allande, which is located about 10 kilometers away, in addition, despite being of the Principality of Asturias is one of those few villages that speak the official language of the neighboring autonomous community, Galicia.

How to get there

It is possible to reach the municipality of Pola de Allande by eight different roads; the national road N-634, which connects Oviedo and León, the AS-15, which connects La Rodriga with the town, the AS-28 and the AS-12 which connects León with Pola de Allande, the AS-34 can be reached from Canas de Narcea, by the AS-219 from Luarca, by the AS-217 from Tineo by the ALL-5 from Bustantigo.

It is also possible to access Pola by bus from Oviedo, Luarca and Tineo, among other locations.

What to see

Parque de el Toral

This beautiful park is a perfect place to relax after a long walk or a hard day. The magnificent grove that composes it has a beautiful flora and numerous centenary trees that are one of the relics of the village.

El Valle del Silencio

This natural and ethnographic set includes rural villages such as San Salvador, Fontenta or San Martin. In San Martin we can see a beautiful tower, called the tower of Valledor sixteenth century and Salvador found examples of ancient buildings and the hermitage of Our Lady of Bedramon.

Iglesia de San Andrés

This magnificent Gothic temple has a beautiful ribbed vault and a mannerist altarpiece reminiscent of the school of Berruguete. It dates from the 16th century but over the centuries it underwent many changes and additions until it became the present church.

La Torre del Valledor

This complex consists of the four-century-old tower of Valledor (successor of the previous construction from medieval times), the surgeon’s house, a chapel, a bakery, a watering place and a mill, in short, a real journey into the past.

Monasterio de Santa María de Celón

This beautiful church consists of a single rectangular nave, although a chapel was later added on the left side. To pass through it you have to go through an arch over stone imposts. There are two entrances to access the church, a main one decorated in Romanesque style and with three archivolts, and a side one with a semicircular arch over imposts.

Palacete de Ramos Ron

Symbol of the Indian architecture of the town, the palace of Ramos Ron is of neoclassical style and is the work of the well-known architect José Gómez Cangués (1910 – 1995) in a land that stands out for its great unevenness. This building was commissioned in 1890 by Manuel Ramos Flórez. He emigrated to the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico and married Carmen Ron. After his time as an emigrant, he transferred the style of the Indianas to his private house.

Palacio de Cienfuegos

The first castle dates from the fourteenth century but was rebuilt two centuries later, in the sixteenth century by the Lord of Cienfuegos. Only the lower part of the building remains from the Gothic period. The palace is L-shaped, with its three square towers, not crenellated, defended the lords of the palace. There was another reform in the 18th century to adapt it to the residence of Count Peñalba.

San Chuis

This impressive castro was discovered by a neighbor of the village. The first excavations were carried out between 1962 and 1963, under the shared direction of Elías Domínguez and Francisco Jordá. Later, in 1979, new excavations continued under the sole responsibility of Francisco Jordá and the last ones were carried out in 1986.

Sierra de Carondio y Valledor

It is declared as a protected landscape, throughout its extension we can find precious cork oak trees and native species of birds of prey and wolves. Within the protected landscape is the Oro river, declared a Site of Community Importance and partially the Site of Community Importance of the cork oak groves of Navia

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Pola de Allande is based mainly on meats. Beef, game, poultry, pork and pork products such as sausages, botillos and choscos are very typical. The most traditional dishes of the town are potes, fabadas, tortilla al ron, stuffed cabbage, vegetable pie and salted meats. For dessert, traditional dishes are custard, rice pudding, frixuelos, hazelnut cake and cottage cheese. Don’t forget to try the cream liqueur of orujo and/or arguandiente.
