Padrón is one of the most important towns of all the routes that run to Santiago, since according to the writings, the Apostle was here in life and in death, being transferred his body by his disciples in a stone boat once he died.

In addition to its historical link with the Jacobean route, this small town is also famous for having hosted two of the most important writers of Galician and Spanish literature: Rosalia de Castro and Camilo José Cela. In gastronomic terms, it is also world famous for being the place where the famous Herbón peppers are grown.

Gastronomy

The star product of this town and almost the entire Galician province and community are its famous Herbón peppers, which since 2009 have their own denomination of origin. You cannot continue your pilgrimage without tasting the real peppers grown in the neighboring town of Herbón and corroborate if it is true that “uns pican e outros non”. Seafood and fish also stand out due to the freshness of the products because of its proximity to the sea, standing out also the Galician octopus or the traditional lamprey as in previous towns. In Galicia there is no good food without a good after-dinner meal and that will not be a problem in Padrón, since it has several typical desserts. First of all, an almond and egg yolk cake stands out, like the traditional Santiago cake but filled with egg yolk. Also typical are milhojas, filloas, almendrados and picos cookies.
