Get to know Golegã
The small village of Golegã, the seat of its municipality, is located on the banks of the Tagus River and has a great equestrian tradition.
This municipality hosts the famous National Horse Fair, which has a great impact throughout the country and also internationally. It also has the distinction of European Horse City.

How to get there
To get to Golegã the easiest way is to get to Santarém and, from there, take the national road N-365. It can also be reached by the national road N-243 from Torres Novas or the IC-3 road from Entroncamento.
It is also possible to get there by public transport thanks to a railway line that stops about 4 km from the village. If you want to take a bus, the only option is to go to Entroncamento and then take a cab to Golegã.

What to see
Casa Museo Carlos Relvas
The Carlos Relvas House Museum is located in the village of Golegã and its purpose is to show visitors the photographic work of the artist. Relvas had the House Museum built in 1872 and, today, this studio is unique in the world.
The artist was the leading exponent of the photographic studios that took place throughout the European continent in the second half of the 19th century. That is why the building that houses his studio is and continues to be the subject of study for other contemporary artists in Europe and America.
This building is distributed on two floors and has a romantic aspect, which gives it a greater monumentality. Of the House Museum highlights the second floor, in which we can see a large glass window and, it is here where all kinds of photographic furniture and canvases showing different landscapes are arranged.

Iglesia Matriz
The Matriz Church stands in the town of Golegã, within the district of Santarém and was declared a National Monument. The church dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries and is a large rectangular building.
The temple was erected by order of Manuel I and is worth admiring its wonderful facade, which presents a richly ornamented appearance, typical of the Manueline style. The interior of the temple is plastered with blue and white tiles and some of them reproduce scenes from the life of Christ.

Quinta da Cardiga
This Quinta, located in Golegã, was owned by King Afonso Henriques, who donated it to the Order of the Templars at the end of the 12th century. Until the 19th century this quinta was part of the defensive line of the Tagus, until it became the property again of various religious institutions.
Time later it was acquired by the Sommer family and currently belongs to their descendants, known as the Andrade and Mello. It thus constitutes a manor house of great interest that evidences different architectural styles, a sign of the power that this estate had throughout the centuries.
