Once again, the gentle orography makes today’s walk considerably easier. Amongst thick
forests and wide meadows, we will cross the rivers Magdalena and Trimaz, getting the
chance to visit San Alberte church and a few medieval bridges.
Recommendation Pilgrim
There are some routes in this stage that could be a little bit complicated for cyclists
and people with reduced mobility so we recommend them to continue their way through the
national road. The stage is well signaled so there should not be any problem, not even for
those people with reduced mobility.
You can stay the night in Baamonde or in Miraz, it’s up to you. Many pilgrims choose to split
this stage in two due to the presence of a hostel and other establishments in an intermediate
point in Baamonde. Some others choose to advance some kilometers and go on to the small village of
Miraz.

Km 0 ‧ Vilalba
We set off from Vilalba’s historical centre, more precisely from Santa María square. We
walk Travesía de San Juan and Travesía do Matadero, coming out onto a path along which
we leave Vilalba and that leads to the river Magdalena. Ponte dos Pasos will allow us to
cross the watercourse, passing by an abandoned mill, to continue parallel to the river for a
few metres. Farther ahead, we take an uphill paved path to the right, getting close to the
highway, which we cross by an underpass. We come across another medieval bridge, Ponte
Rodríguez, over the river Trimaz. We turn right immediately after crossing it and, still
ascending, we reach the highest point of this stage to soon arrive at the parishes of Boizán
and San Xoan de Alba.
We enter Alba immediately after crossing the motorway, where we will find San Xoán de
Alba church, of neogothic style. At this point, we must follow the national road and, after a
few metres, turn right towards A Torre until we reach the small village of Pedrouzos.
Km 7,8 ‧ Pedrouzos
From here, the journey runs along uneven paved paths until we come out onto the main
road again, following it parallel to the motorway, which we will have to cross a few times
by a series of underpasses. We will cross the river Saa by a new medieval bridge and
continue along the hard shoulder of road N-634, leading into Guitiriz municipality, more
precisely in the parish of San Pedro de Pígara. A milestone here marks that we are
approaching the last 100 kilometres to Santiago. Still on road N-634, we pass by a petrol
station and, after some two kilometres, we take a dirt track to the left. We will be leaving
Guitiriz and entering the municipality of Begonte, crossing the small village of A Rega. We
are approaching Baamonde, we just need to turn left after the funeral parlour and, once
there, we should visit the 9h century parish church of Santiago, located on the right-hand
side of the national road VI.
