What to see
Espacio Natural Protegido de la ría de Barbadún
This marvelous enclave is located in the extreme western coastal area of the Basque Country, within the Historical Territory of Biscay and on both sides of the mouth of the Babadún or Mercadillo estuary.
The Natural Area that is preserved today is the result of the accumulation of marine remains, dating back to the Quaternary Era, which have formed a sandy beach of great length and an arrangement of dunes.
On the left side of the estuary fluvial remains have also accumulated, thus constituting islets covered by marshes and bathed at the same time by the high tide.

Costa acantilada y afilada
The coastal area of Pobeña has only one beach, La Arena, which is very sharp and steep. The visitor has the possibility of observing it if he follows a walk along the coast towards Cantabria, passing also by Itsas Lur.
<pThese sharp cliffs are the result of the intense work of the sea, which for years lashed the coast with its wild waves, sculpting the rocks in the harshest winter months.

Playa de la Arena
This sandy beach, located right next to the mouth of the Babadún River, between the towns of Pobeña (Musques) and La Arena (Ciérvana), is a semi-urban beach, with dark sand and quite crowded in the summer months.
This beach is located right next to the mouth of the Babadún River, between the towns of Pobeña (Musques) and La Arena (Ciérvana).
It is also accessible and part of the sandy area is included within the protected natural area of the Bardadún Estuary, occupying a Special Area of Conservation declared by the Natura 2000 Network.
