This beautiful Asturian village is located on the banks of the river Nalon, thanks to its strategic position became a seaport of great importance in the mid-twentieth century.

How to get there

It is quite easy to get to Muros de Nalon as it is located next to the airport of Asturias. From the airport, take the national road N-81 and then the N-632 to Muros.

It is also possible to arrive from Avilés by train and bus thanks to daily lines. This is the most recommended option since the city has an extensive public transport network so it is easier to reach from anywhere in Spain.

What to see

Casa Altamira

The Altamira house is known for having been the home of Rafael Altamira y Crevea, an important Spanish critic and writer. This house, of Indian style, is divided into three floors covered by a gable roof. It is accessed after crossing a large garden and going up the staircase that leads to the entrance door. Its main facade stands out because it ends in a decorated gable supported on a large terrace.

Its construction dates back to the Middle Ages, when King Alfonso III donated several churches to various Asturian municipalities, including the parish church of Santa Maria de Muros de Nalon. It is located in the central Plaza del Marqués de Muros, declared a Site of Artistic Interest due to the variety and relevance of the buildings located there.

This temple dedicated to Santa Maria was later expanded and consists of a single nave. From its facade we can highlight the bell tower, decorated in its most pointed part with a capital.

This is the first and only coal port in Spain, declared as a result of this, an Asset of Historical and Industrial Interest. It was built in the early twentieth century thanks to the railroad line that transported coal ore from Fuso de la Reina to San Esteban de Pravia. Of its original construction, the cranes and the loading bays that served for the unloading of the ore are preserved in perfect condition. Today, the city’s marina is located on this site.

Playa de Aguilar

The beach of Aguilar is located on the outskirts of the municipality of Muros de Nalón, in an environment formed by gentle cliffs and forests. This beach extends over 650 meters in length and is composed of very fine golden sand. It has been awarded Blue Flag status thanks to the high quality of its waters.

Plaza del Marqués de Muros

Situated in the heart of the town of Muros de Nalón and built in the sixteenth century, the Plaza del Marqués has an apparently elongated and irregular structure. In its surroundings are distributed the most prominent buildings of the city as the town hall, the church of Santa Maria and various buildings characteristic of the architecture of the area.
