What to see

Basilica de Santa María de Concejo

The medieval Basilica of Santa Maria de Concejo in Gothic style and with one of the facades in Romanesque style presents two theories about the possible date of construction, the first shows that the existence of a bipartite window, placed in the western facade of the church, is irrefutable proof of the beginning of the construction around the thirteenth or fourteenth century.

The first theory is that the existence of a bipartite window, placed in the western facade of the church, is irrefutable proof of the beginning of the construction around the thirteenth or fourteenth century.

The second theory about the building reveals that the basilica is the one that tells us that it corresponds to a single period, that it would have been built at the end of the last half of the 15th century and that it was consecrated in 1480, even though the works had not yet been completed.

Monasterio de San Salvador

From the monastery of San Salvador de Celorio hardly anything remains. However, it had a commemorative plaque alluding to Alfonso Suarez and his wife Cristilde as founders of the same in 1107.

All that can be seen today are the medieval remains of the tower of the chevet and a doorway at the foot of the temple, dating from the second half of the twelfth century and the thirteenth century. The tower of the chancel has a square floor plan, while the doorway has marks typical of the late Romanesque.

Monumento de Egidio Gavito Bustamante

The Egidio Gavito Bustamante Monument is a sculptural work inaugurated in 1911 in the town of Poo. The base on which the statue is supported is due to the architect Manuel del Busto.

The work, cast in bronze, was made by the sculptor Sebastián Miranda, thus showing his style that would be present throughout his career.

Gavito, former mayor of Llanes and philanthropist, is arranged seated with a relaxed posture conveying to the visitor a sense of emotion and closeness.

The wall of medieval style of Llanes began to be built in the year 1270, extending the works until the fifteenth century and was subsequently renovated on numerous occasions.

About three hundred meters of the north side and the tower on the south side, where the Tourist Office of the town is located, are still preserved. What is preserved is not a third of what it covered in its origins, amounting to 900 square meters with a wall width of one and a half meters.

Palacete del Conde de la Vega del Sella

The palace of the Count of Vega del Sella was built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, although it underwent some remodeling in the following two hundred years. Of the primitive construction can still be seen the tower of the Aguilar de San Jorge of which the walls of medieval origin are preserved.

The facade of the palace presents a simple modernist appearance, due to the symmetrical arrangement of its openings. On the cover you can see the emblems of the lineage, contemplating a crowned double-headed eagle, which corresponds to the arms of the Duke, since Fernán Duque de Estrada Equino was granted the title of Count of Vega del Sella in 1647, being the most famous of the holders of the title his son Ricardo Duque de Estrada y Martínez de Moren (1870-1941).

Palacio de los Duques de Estrada

The Palace of the Dukes of Estrada was owned by the Dukes of Estrada until it was left empty in the 19th century. The current state of abandonment of the building was due to the attacks it suffered during the Napoleonic invasion, under the command of General Bonet, in 1809.

The facades of the building have nothing to do apparently, because, while the main facade is exaggeratedly austere, the east facade is decorated with arches. An architectural element to be noted on the south facade of the building is the side portico.

Torrexón de la Posada

The Torrexón de la Posada is located on the estate where the palace of the Posada Cortés family is located. It is a fortress house that was built between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries with a rectangular floor plan and a semicircular arch as access to the interior. Some authors point out that the Torrexón is a plot that originally belonged to the Posada family.

The faces of the building are very compact, being the north face the one that presents a greater number of openings and in the upper floor of the north face three Gothic openings can be observed, which solve its upper closure by means of the disposition of pointed arches.
