Get to know Palas de Rei

Palas de Rei currently underwent an expansion thanks to the rise of pilgrimages to Santiago, but in the past it was already an important town since it was one of the favorite places of the Galician royalty and nobility. This has left an important historical heritage that is still preserved.

It is worth mentioning the cows in the area, this animal is a great attraction of Palas de Rei; thanks to them is obtained a high quality milk with which one of the best cheeses is made.

Gastronomy

In Palas de Rei, first of all, it is worth mentioning the famous Arzúa-Ulloa denomination of origin cheese, made by the locals in an artisanal way. Other typical Galician dishes such as cocido (stew), lacón con grelos (pork shoulder with turnip tops), pulpo a la gallega (Galician octopus) and empanada (pie) also stand out. Any meal in the town should be accompanied by the rustic bread famous in the area.
