The town of Nájera is located in the heart of La Rioja Alta, considered one of the most attractive tourist regions of the community thanks to the centuries of history that surround it.
Nájera preserves remains of all the cultures that have trod these lands, from the Celtic tribes to the Muslims, highlighting without doubt the monastery of Santa María la Real.
Location
How to get there
The town of Nájera is located halfway along the highway known as the Autovía del Camino, A-12, which connects the city of Logroño with the city of Pamplona.
The airport of Najera has little air traffic but has several flights to Madrid, another impediment is that despite being 9 km from the city does not have public transport to get there.
<pIf you prefer to get to Nájera by public transport, the most advisable is to get to the city of Logroño, which has an extensive transport network, and then take one of the daily lines that the companies Autobuses Jiménez and Riojacar offer.
History / Culture
What to see
Alcázar de Nájera
The Alcázar de Nájera stands on the hillside between the castle of La Mota and the town of Nájera, in La Rioja. It is prolonged by the horizontal platform that runs along its north and east sides, used until the mid-twentieth century as threshing floors. From its location, the fortress dominates the entire city of Burgos.

Convento de Santa Elena
The Monastery of Santa Elena is located on the route of the Camino de Santiago and was founded by Doña Aldonza de Manrique de Lara, a descendant of the Dukes of Nájera, in the mid-sixteenth century. It is currently inhabited by the congregation of the Franciscan Poor Clare Sisters. It is a building constructed in ashlar, masonry and brick. The complex is made up of a church, a small cloister and the usual monastic outbuildings.

Monasterio de Santa María la Real
The Monastery of Santa María la Real de Nájera is one of the most representative places of La Rioja. It was the Royal Pantheon of the kings of Navarre and is located on the route of the Camino de Santiago.
A legend arose around its foundation that tells how the king, while hunting, stalked his prey to a grotto where he found an enigmatic image of the Virgin along with a vase of lilies, a bell and a lamp. Subsequently, the monarch reconquered the Riojan town of Calahorra from the Muslims and built the monastery of Santa María la Real as an offering to the Virgin who had helped him.

Museo Histórico Najerillense
The building that currently houses the Museo Histórico Najerillense, built in the 18th century, was once the dwelling of the abbot of the monastery of Santa María la Real. Currently, this museum houses a permanent exhibition that displays some important features of the archaeology of the Najerilla Valley.

Real capilla de la Santa Cruz
The parish church of Santa Cruz was founded in 1052 and was located in a chapel of the Monastery of Santa María la Real until its division in 1230, by order of Pope Honorius III. The current temple was founded in 1611, being the architect Juan de Raona who attached a hemispherical dome on pendentives finished by a lantern with four windows.
