Get to know Bercianos del Real Camino

This small town of just two hundred inhabitants has a rural architecture worthy of admiration, reflects a way of life dedicated to the countryside.

The name refers to the repopulation with original inhabitants of the Bierzo region, and also, it is worth making a special mention of this municipality since here was founded one of the first pilgrim hostels of the Voluntary Hospitaleros of the Camino de Santiago of the Leonese section.

How to get there

Returning to Bercianos del Real Camino is very easy thanks to the A-231 highway, the route of this runs very close to the village and has an exit for it. If you are coming from León you have to take the LE-11 to Viloria de la Jurisdicción and then take the A-231. On the other hand, if you are coming from Burgos, you only have to take the A-231 towards Bercianos. From Palencia take the A-67 highway to Santillana de Campos and at the first exit we turn off to take the A-231.

It is possible to get from Sahagún and León by public transport thanks to a daily bus line.

What to see

Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Perales

The Hermitage of Our Lady of Perales in the twelfth century depended on the Hospital of O Cebreiro. It was built in a very simple style with brick and the only remarkable piece is the single-walled bell tower.

At present the Hermitage is very admired by the neighbors of the village and every September 8 they celebrate a pilgrimage in honor of the Virgin.
