What to see
Ponte Maceira o Ponte Vella
Located between Ames and Negreira, very close to Santiago, this architectural complex is made up of the so-called “A Ponte Vella”, with a Roman base, the pazo of Baladrón, the Chapel of San Brais (from the 17th century) and several granaries and stone mills embedded in the abundant vegetation.

Área Recreativa de Covas

Edificio Consistorial
The Negreira coat of arms, located on the front of the town hall, alludes to the Jacobean fable, as this is a place of passage between Santiago and Finisterre.
The fable about the shield comes from Roman times and tells that those who decided to bring the body of the apostle Santiago to the community, had to ask for authorization to the governor. The problem arises when the governor denies them passage and decides to arrest them and take them to prison. However, the prisoners managed to escape thanks to the appearance of an angel, resuming their way to Santiago despite being pursued by the soldiers. Upon reaching Ponte Maceira, they are almost arrested but thanks to the bridge collapsing, they were able to escape.

Monumento al Caminante
Due to the large influx of pilgrims in the town of Negreira it was decided to decorate the travelers with an image in the village. That is why a monument was made in honor of them and the effort involved in making this ancient route.

Monumento al Emigrante
Since Negreira, like most of the Galician towns, historically suffered the scourge of emigration, it was decided to erect a monument next to the Coton pazo to honor the emigrant. This makes reference to the obstacles that the autochthonous neighbors encountered when they had to abandon both their land and their own family to go in search of a better life.

Paseo Fluvial
With a distance of almost two kilometers and next to the Barcala River, the River Walk connects Negreira with the Covas Refuge. With two meters wide, it is a very comfortable pedestrian path with several paths over the dams, predominantly green areas.
At the time of the creation of this route, it was decided to restore several of the mills on the banks of the river, such as Vilachán or Os Castros.

Pazo de Albariña
Situated on the side of the Tambre river and close to Ponce Maceira, we find the pazo of Albariña, also called pazo de Chancela or “Casa do Capitán”. Its L-shaped structure and the presence of a well-preserved tower make these the most striking parts of the whole complex. Subsequently, rehabilitation work was carried out and a new gallery was included to give greater visibility to the garden.

Pazo de Cotón y Capilla de San Mauro
Situated next to the San Mauro road, which was formerly the Camino Real, this pazo has in its central part pieces attached to the towers in the form of a cylinder, which date from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The access to the upper part, where the Stone Gallery is located, is by means of a baroque style staircase. The difficulty in determining its medieval origins is due to the number of additions in recent years.
