The town of Alcuéscar is located at the southern end of the province of Cáceres, between the Sierras del Centinela, de la Lombriz, Sierra de Montánchez and San Pedro.
Its roots go back to the times of the Muslim invasion, being probably at that time its original name “Güescar.”

How to get there
The easiest way to get to Alcuéscar is by road, there are several that allow you to reach the village, such as the A-5 highway from Madrid and the A-66 from Seville or from Gijón.
By public transport such as bus it is possible to arrive from Madrid, surrounding towns and Seville.

What to see
Casa de la Encomienda
This building has a great historical value as it was the only headquarters of the Order of Santiago in the city of Cáceres for many years.
Today it is completely replaced by two twin houses that occupy the land where the old Templar house was located.

Ermita de la Virgen de Fátima
Also known as the Ermita del Calvario, this is the first hermitage dedicated to Fatima in the whole country. It is located on a hill, which presides over the entire municipality and has a wonderful viewpoint. Although the image of the virgin is in the parish church in the center of town, every May 13 it is taken to the hermitage by the women of the town.
Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción
Built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, this late Gothic church is composed of a rectangular floor plan surrounded by five sections roofed with eighteenth-century vaults. Despite being a construction of the fifteenth century, this underwent numerous renovations over the centuries, especially in the seventeenth and later in the twentieth century, where they came to make five renovations.

Iglesia de Santa Lucía del Trampal
This temple dedicated to Santa Lucia has been rebuilt and rehabilitated almost entirely. Its original style was mainly Visigothic, being a temple dating back to the seventh century.
