How to get there
The easiest way to reach the town of Almendralejo is by road, by the A-5 highway and by the EX-300 road from Badajoz, from Merida you arrive by the A-66 highway, from Madrid by the A-5 highway and then by the A-66 and from Cordoba by the national N-432.

If you decide to travel by train, there are different railway lines that will allow you to arrive from different points such as Seville, Cordoba, Madrid, Salamanca and Badajoz, among others.
Another option is the bus. There are several connections that allow you to reach the city without any problems from Madrid, Merida, Seville, Salamanca, etc.

What to see
Casa Palacio Marqués de la Encomienda
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it was built in the second half of the seventeenth century by order of the Marquises de la Encomienda, hence its name. Entirely made of masonry and plastered brick, it is Baroque in style and is distributed around a main axis that corresponds to the central courtyard of the house.

Colegio Monsalud de Piezas Arqueológicas
It is a collection of eighty pieces of Roman, Visigothic and Arab origin that belonged to the Marquis of Monsalud. From the Roman period it houses various pieces such as cornices, friezes, a milestone, a shaft or a capital, specifically from the first to the fourth century. From the Visigothic period we will find cimacios, a capital, pilasters, decorated imposts, etc. The Arab area contains a commemorative tombstone from the 9th century and from the medieval period a royal coat of arms. The entire collection is distributed in three rooms and a courtyard.

Convento e Iglesia de San Antonio
This complex was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1664 and was founded in 1664 by the Alcantarine Franciscan Fathers of Nuestra Señora de La Luz de Moncarche, in Alconchel. The convent is considered one of the most important in the whole province for being inhabited by 50 friars and 18 boarders. The old building was sacked during the War of Independence and later with the Disentailment of Mendizábal. In 1997 its internal and external structure was completely recovered.

Convento e Iglesia de Santa Clara
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it was founded in 1702 and underwent numerous reforms over the years. Inside it houses twenty cloistered cells, a chapter house, infirmary, two kitchens, dining room, as well as a cemetery and an orchard on the outside.

Ermita de Santiago
Built in the sixteenth century, it is considered one of the oldest hermitages in the whole town, as well as one of the simplest both externally and internally. It is a building with a single nave covered by a large barrel vault and a main chapel, which is protected by a dome. In the interior highlights its altarpiece, which houses the images of San José, San Sebastián and Santa Bárbara.

Estación Enológica
Built in 1915, it is considered the first ampelographic and enological station in Extremadura and the second in Spain. It is a neoclassical building that stands out for its large interior staircase.
From the outside you can see its large facade decorated with elements that recreate ashlars, pilasters, vases, split pediments and coats of arms, thanks to the mixture of ocher and white.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Purificación
It is one of the most important buildings of Almendralejo being, therefore, declared of Cultural Interest.
Built in the sixteenth century on an ancient hermitage, at first sight it stands out for its large buttresses decorated with cornices, pinnacles and gargoyles, as well as the sixteenth-century tower, later rebuilt. This is divided into two distinct parts: the first composed of two bodies of Gothic style and the second by two bodies of Herrerian style.

Plaza de Toros
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it was inaugurated in 1843 although in 1912 it underwent a major restoration that clarified its neo-Mudejar style. It is a square with thick external walls with arches and vaults to which a metal structure is superimposed. In 1975 it was sold to the Sociedad Extremeña de Espectáculos. S.A. and since 1988 the square belongs to the City Council of Almendralejo.

Iglesia del Corazón de María
Also known as the Church of the Fathers, it was built in 1893 in a minimalist neo-Gothic style. Of its main facade highlights the great wall where the entrance door is located, topped with a pointed arch and on which stands a poly-lobed rose window.

Museo de las Ciencias del Vino
It is a museum relocated on the building formerly known as the “Alcoholera Extremeña”, the purpose of this center is to collect and disseminate the culture and history of the wines of the area. It has both permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as an auditorium and gardens where we will find different types of vineyards.

Palacio de Monsalud
Built in 1752, the palace of Monsalud is mainly divided into three floors. Of its set highlights the main door, which contains jambs and a marble lintel, extending over it a balcony decorated with scrolls, acanthus leaves, two harriers, two rampant lions and a cross at the top.

Parque de la Piedad
It is a park built in the nineteenth century and underwent numerous reforms. It houses numerous tree species, highlighting the presence of palm trees, cedars and pines. All of them give a great botanical value to this park and make the perfect place to relax and rest a while.

Plaza del Mercado
Built in 1928 by Luis Barragán Bote, it is a neo-Mudejar style square. In it is the building of San Jose, which houses the various market stalls and held on the esplanade of the square every Friday the municipal market.

Santuario de la Piedad
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it was built in the early sixteenth century when, according to legend, the image of Our Lady of Mercy was found.
This building underwent numerous reforms and is currently characterized by its size and simplicity.

Sepulcro de Huerta Montero
It has a depth of 2 meters and is divided into three sections: an access ramp, a corridor and a circular chamber. It dates from the year 4650 and was used as a collective burial for more than a thousand years. In it are buried 109 individuals placed in fetal position and has on the outside with information panels that aim to disclose the history of them.

Teatro Carolina Coronado
Built in 1916 in honor of the poet Carolina Coronado, a native of Almendralejo, retains its modernist facade and the frescoes of the vaults. It was restored in 2003, recovering its original appearance with its boxes, proscenium and stalls. The facade, divided into three floors, has on the first floor with the entrance doors, on the second floor two linteled openings and on the second floor several semicircular openings.
