This stage offers the wonderful opportunity to pass through the monasteries of San Juan de la Peña. We
recommend that those of you who are in good shape, opt for the possibility of going directly to the
monasteries. Otherwise you have the opportunity to sleep in Santa Cilia de Jaca and visit these
monuments in the following days.
Recommendation Pilgrim
Be careful crossing the River Aragón. Although the crossings are in good condition, you should
always be aware of the potential for unexpected problems.
Route
Itinerary
Km 0 ‧ Jaca
We leave the village in front of the entrance to the citadel, in the direction of Santa Cilia de
Jaca. Once you are at the roundabout with the petrol station, you should follow the road towards
Pamplona, where a short while later, we will turn left, along the promenade of a recently-created
neighbourhood. Follow the path, passing an industrialised area, until reaching the cemetery. A
little later, we will exit along a path off to the right, and we will return towards the national
road until we encounter the exit for San Juan de la Peña. Don’t worry, the exit is well-signposted.
Following the main path along the national road N-240, that depending on the moment, will be on the
right- or left-hand side, we will arrive to Santa Cilia. Once there, we will go along Calle Mayor,
and finally circle the village until we find the path parallel to the national road.
Km 25,4 ‧ Arrés
On the other side, we will find another path that will advance from the other side of the national
road, where later on we will yet again cross the national road, along a forest path that finishes at
Puente la Reina de Jaca. This region, on the other side of the River Aragón, isn’t included in our
exact path, however we can take a detour to visit it if deemed opportune. In this case, once we have
visited it, we should again cross the River Aragón and take the street to Huesca once again. Further
on, in a secondary street, we will take the exit towards Arrés. Follow this path which passes along
the hillside of Monte Samitier, with views of the Canal de Berdún.
