This stage of just under 20 kilometres presents two alternatives: to continue all the way to
Cadavedo along the road or to go deeper into the mountains of Sierra de Palancas.
Cadavedo or Cadavéu hides beautiful spots, such as Ribeirona beach or Regalina
hermitage, located on top of a hill with stunning views.
Recommendation Pilgrim
It is very important to follow the road in case of bad weather. Uneven terrain and poorly maintained road surfaces can play a nasty trick. However, if the weather conditions are good, the alternative route that goes through the Asturian countryside is impressive. For people with reduced mobility and for cyclists, it is advisable to take the road if the weather is rainy, and maximum caution should be exercised due to vehicles.

Itinerary
Km 0 ‧ Soto de Luiña
We begin our walk heading to the national road. At the first junction we will see marks to
follow the historic way via Sierra de las Palancas or to continue along the road, variant
marked as Ballota. We will continue straight, by Ballota, following the coastline. Farther
ahead, we cross under A-8 and, shortly after, we leave the national road to take a street to
the right. This way, we will reach Albuerne, within Cudillero municipality, famous for
Gancéu beach
We will continue to Novellana and Castañeras, also within Cudillero municipality. The
latter is known for harbouring one of the natural treasures in the whole region: El Silencio
beach. Its charm does not come from its size, as there are barely 500 metres from one
side to the other, or from one cliff to the other. It comes from the fact that it is semi-hidden
and that not many tourists know about it.
Km 11,5 ‧ Ballota
After this vital stop at El Silencio, we will continue towards Santa Marina and Ballota,
where we will leave the tarmac behind in order to undertake country paths and to cross the
river Cabo by “le Pont qui tremble”, as French pilgrims used to refer to this bridge,
originally built in wood.
Km 13,5 ‧ Tablizo
Before reaching Cadavedo, we will have to cross Tablizo forest, full of chestnuts, holly,
oak trees… This part might be difficult at certin times of the year, when tree branches
become entangled with each other and even form real labyrinths of tunnels.
