Today you will say goodbye to Cantabria because you will conclude your stage in Asturias. You can taste the typical gastronomy in many cities and villages of this stage.
The Itinerary from Comillas to San Vicente de la Barquera is explained in stage number 14 so we will start in San Vicente de la Barquera. The next village that you will visit is La Acebosa. Before getting here you will have to go over the dual carriageway to cross the train rails. You will see the Capilla de Lazareto chapel that used to be a leprous’ hospital in the 14 century. The chapel next to the hospital just has the walls and the door; it is considered one of the first gothic monuments in Cantabria. During the last years a few paintings in the main building were discovered, with a great historical value. Then you will have to get to the CA-843 to get to Hortigal and A Estrada, both belong to Val de San Vicente. In this small village we will find a tower declared of Cultural Interest. This tower is the only medieval tower in the community. You will have to continue through the way that the yellow arrows will indicate you. This time they will lead you to Serdio, a village that has a hostel. Then you will have to go to the right and cross the train rails to get to the Nansa’s river estuary. A little bit after you will have to get to the N-634 and the go through a path in the forest, leaving the asphalted road for a while. You are now in Unquera a village near to Asturias but that belongs to Cantabria, near the Deba river. This village is famous due to a pastry called corbatas de Unquera, they are made with puff pastry. You can stay the night here especially if you have stayed the night in Comillas. If you have started in San Vicente de la Barquera and you are not tired you can continue to Llanes, to get to this village you will have to walk 25 kilometers more.
From Unquera you will have to cross Tina Mayor estuary, where the Deba river concludes. It is the natural frontier between Asturias and Cantabria. Asturias is famous worldwide due to its cider. Now you are in Colombres. After saying goodbye to Cantabria and cross a small chapel you will get to this village.
