Today we say goodbay to the pilgrims that choose Sanabres’s option We follow the national way and we cross some towns before arrive to Villanueva de Azoague and, finally, Benavente. We have the oportunity of cross over deserted train tracks, it gives to the route a special and adventurous charm.
We go out from Granja de la Moreruela from his church, here we have two different ways to choose. We are going to follow the way from Via de la Plata, it goes to Benavente. If you prefer continue by the Sanabres Way, you need to choose the other way.
Through San Juan and Bodegas streets, we head towards a track in the direction of a telecommunications antenna. Through San Juan and Bodegas streets, we head towards a track in the direction of a telecommunications antenna. This time, you have to turn right at the first place on the national road, on the right. We continue along this road for at least a couple of kilometers, at which point we coincide with the road that goes to Tábara (population through which the Sanabrés Trail passes). Once in it continue on the right, along a road parallel to the N-630 and that will bring us to Santovenia de Esla. There we can stop to have breakfast and to visit its church of Nuestra Señora del Tovar, continuing for its later part linking with a way that takes to the stream of Prado Ramiro. Next we approach a new country, after a cemetery, crossing it and following a path next to it until Villaveza del Agua. Always with the road as follows until you reach this town, specifically until we come across the sign that marks its limit point, where we deviate by a track to the left. Barcial del Barco is close to the kilometers and has another service, including a recently opened hostel.
Just after passing in front of his church we cross by a footbridge and cross this nucleus again by the N-630, leaving it a little further along a track that leads to the cemetery. Just when we get to the train tracks we have two options to continue. We can cross the tracks and then the national road to continue on asphalt in the first place and then along plots to Villanueva de Azoague. The other, shorter alternative is to continue on the train tracks (which are abandoned), crossing several bridges and just after the third leave the tracks to a track that gives access to the town of Villanueva de Azoague.
Continuing, always in front, we went to a regional highway, reaching in just three kilometers our end of stage in Benavente. Before entering the city center, we will take a road that crosses the national road under a bridge, thus reaching Carretera de la Estación. From here we continue straight ahead to the Pradera park, where the municipal shelter is located.
Remember.
Benavente hide a lot of secrets, you can not go there whitout visiting his wonderful gardens or the iglesia de Santa Maria del Azogue. If you have time and tou want to stay one day more, the city have a lot of differents places to stay.
